Bringing the story of Jesus to life

About The Promise

Since 1989, The Promise has told the story of Jesus Christ through immersive, high-quality musical productions that capture the essence of the Good News. Initially only offering one production that ran from June to October, The Promise now offers three different productions based on the Gospel accounts in the Bible. Our original production, The Promise, runs in the fall season, from early September through early November and tells the whole story of Jesus, from his birth to his resurrection. The Promise of Passover focuses on the passion narrative, and runs in the weeks surrounding Easter each Spring. Our newest addition, The Promise of Christmas, runs in December and relays the Nativity story in a poignant, beautiful retelling of God’s faithfulness in fulfilling his promises. As 501c3 nonprofit organization, The Promise depends on faithful partners and friends to continue to tell this story. We hope you will join us in proclaiming the good news!

Jesus Christ through the performing
Our Mission

THE PROMISE exists to share the good news of Jesus Christ through the performing arts.

We seek to serve our local communities by providing family-friendly, uplifting entertainment and events that will benefit the people and businesses in the surrounding areas. We commit to operate our ministry with faithfulness to biblical principles of honesty and integrity, and strive for the highest standards of excellence and professionalism possible with the resources that God provides.

History

In the mid 1980’s a group of Texans had a vision to share the story of Jesus through a dynamic musical performance in an immersive outdoor environment. After fits, starts, and several failures to launch, their dream finally became a reality in 1989 at the Texas Amphitheater in Glen Rose, Texas. Audiences initially were outnumbered by the large cast on the stage, but it didn’t take long for the quality of the production to gain national attention. Trinity Broadcast Network broadcast the production multiple times, reaching millions of viewers. After becoming a Texas destination, a spinoff production played in Branson, Missouri for nearly a decade.

Over the years, The Promise has continued to expand its reach far beyond Texas, touching lives worldwide. The production has received invitations to perform in iconic locations around the world, including Times Square in New York, Moscow, Russia, and the Olympic Stadium in Seoul, Korea, achieving remarkable milestones.

In Russia, after the fall of the Iron Curtain, The Promise became the first Christian event ever staged at the Kremlin’s Palace of Congresses, a groundbreaking moment in the country’s history.
Similarly, in South Korea, the show captivated audiences at the Olympic Stadium in Seoul, further spreading the message of hope to hundreds of thousands.

Today, nearly four decades later, The Promise continues to draw audiences from all over Texas and beyond who come to experience the story of Jesus come to life.

In November 2024, Somervell County sold the iconic Texas Amphitheater, home of The Promise for 37 years, and The Promise needed a new location to call home. While The Promise explores permanent long term options, Willow Park Baptist Church has opened its doors to host The Promise’s productions for two years beginning with The Promise of Christmas in 2025. The Promise, by God’s grace, will continue to inspire and uplift, drawing visitors from around the globe to witness the story of Jesus in a powerful and unforgettable way.

We are excited to see what God has planned for the future of The Promise!
