Audition Announcement

In March 2020, The Sound of Music comes to life on the epic outdoor stage at The Promise in Glen Rose. We are seeking adults and children to join the cast as we transform The Promise stage to the hills of Austria. The Sound of Music is presented through special arrangement with R&H Theatricals: www.rnh.com.

Audition Details:
This is a professional paid production

Seeking: Non-equity talent, all ethnicities and ages.  Specifically seeking children ages 5-17.

Date: November 4th & 5th 

Time: By appointment only.

Location: Plaza Theatre in Cleburne (11/4) & Amphibian Stage in Fort Worth (11/5)

Prepare: 32 bars from a classic musical.  Accompanist provided. Please bring headshot, resume, and sheet music to your audition.

Open: 3/6/20

Close: 3/14/20

Performance Times: Wednesday-Sundays at 7:30pm; Sundays at 3:00pm

Note: This is an outdoor production at The Promise!  We are seeking actors who are excited to work outside.

MARIA: Pre-cast

MOTHER ABBESS: Pre-cast

LIESl: (Female, Mezzo, to play 16): The oldest child, blossoming into a young lady with an interest in boys. She has a maternal edge and cares deeply for her family.

FRIEDRICH: (Male, to play 14): Tough exterior, oldest brother in the family

LOUISA: (Female, to play 13): Rebellious and spunky

KURT: (Male, to play 10): Gentle, the younger brother of the family

BRIGITTA: (Female, to play 9): Smart, observant, honest

MARTA: (Female, to play 7): Youthful and sweet

GRETL: (Female, to play 6): The youngest von Trapp. Very sweet and loving.

CAPTAIN GEORG VON TRAPP: (Male, Baritone, 30-45) A retired Austrian naval captain. Polished, yet very military in the way he runs his life. Underneath, he is warm, understanding, and determined.

MAX DETWEILLER: (Male, Tenor/Baritone, 30+) Charming and vital, a man of sophistication who enjoys the good life; true friend to von Trapp family


ELSA SCHRADER: (Female, Mezzo Soprano, 25+) A baroness of taste and elegance, sophisticated, dignified, and mature

FRANZ: (Male, non-singing, 30+) The von Trapp family butler, rather formal but not without spirit, loyal to Germany

FRAU SCHMIDT: (Female, non-singing, 30+): The housekeeper; strong and dominating

HERR ZELLER: (Male, non-singing, 30+): Stern and unsmiling, a typical Nazi official.

ROLF GRUBER: (Male, baritone/tenor, to play 17): Suitor to Liesl, telegram delivery boy, later Nazi soldier.

FEMALE ENSEMBLE: All vocal types and ages; featured nuns
